[Samkwang COLUMN] :: The Confused Era of the "In-Between Generation" Author사내기자 Date2024.07.04 Hit219 |
---|
Do you get a sense of what the "In-Between Generation" means just by hearing the term? It's the generation that, having endured a closed-off early career, now finds itself needing to navigate the expectations of both senior colleagues and the more relaxed attitudes of younger ones. In the past, working overtime, coming in on weekends, and attending company events were considered the norm. But now, younger employees ask, "Why should I do that?" Those who belong to the In-Between Generation often struggle to adapt to the cultural differences with their juniors, leading to frustration when their opinions are not followed. Amid these challenges, the terms "Kkondae" and "MZ Frame" have emerged. The "Kkondae Frame" labels someone as an outdated, authoritarian figure if they insist on traditional ways or authoritative speech. Conversely, the "MZ Frame" is used for those who are free-spirited and resist following established systems. We never ask each other, "Why do you feel that way?" even though everyone surely has their reasons! Because of these frames, communication breaks down, and divisiveness increases. In the middle, the In-Between Generation faces the tough task of understanding both the seniors' and the juniors' perspectives. Despite the difficulties, there are positive aspects to being part of the In-Between Generation. The changes in culture have made company life more comfortable in some ways. And ultimately, considering one's position in the workplace rather than just age, everyone becomes part of the In-Between Generation at some point. Generations keep rotating, after all. In other words, we're all the same In-Between Generation! Since we have to be the In-Between Generation anyway, let's take a step back and enjoy the moment! |
