On Thursday, July 18, 2024, Samkwang Co., Ltd. initiated a summer heat illness prevention campaign.

This campaign is part of the regular safety and health education program, aiming to prevent heat-related illnesses due to the summer heat and to protect the health and safety of employees.

The campaign will continue through August, with managers conducting monthly training sessions: one hour for office staff and two hours for production staff.

Guidelines for Preventing Heat-Related Illnesses During Summer Heatwaves

1. Follow the Three Basic Rules

  • - Regularly drink water both indoors and outdoors, take 10-15 minute breaks when heat advisories are issued, and minimize outdoor work during peak heat hours (2 PM - 5 PM).
  • - Outdoor Work Areas: Set up shaded rest areas near the work site, install wind-permeable shade canopies, and add portable air conditioners if necessary.
  • - Indoor Work Areas: Place thermometers and hygrometers, install fans and air conditioners, ensure ventilation, and manage indoor temperatures even during night shifts.

2. Heatwave Response Procedures by Stage

  • - Perceived Temperature Above 31°C: Provide heatwave information to workers, prepare cool water, shade, and fans, provide cooling gear, and manage high-intensity workers and sensitive groups.
  • - Perceived Temperature Above 33°C (Caution): Provide 10-minute breaks every hour, shorten or adjust outdoor work hours during peak heat times.
  • - Perceived Temperature Above 35°C (Warning): Provide 15-minute breaks every hour, stop outdoor work during peak heat times except when unavoidable.
  • - Perceived Temperature Above 38°C (Danger): Provide 15-minute breaks every hour, halt outdoor work during peak heat times except for disaster and safety management work.

3. Actions to Take When Heat Illness Occurs

  • If a heat illness occurs, immediately call 119 for emergency assistance and contact the designated emergency contact person.

Currently, Samkwang is providing ice vests and nutritious food to employees, with plans to additionally distribute glucose supplements.

All employees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the heat illness prevention guidelines to avoid accidents and to continue working towards creating a more comfortable working environment.
