[Thursday, October 16, 2025] Samkwang Co., Ltd. officially joined the Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association as a member company during the ‘Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association Cooperation Meeting’ held at the association's conference room in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where it discussed its direction for entering the defense sector. 

Recently, South Korea, the US, and Japan are reorganizing their military power structures, positioning drones as a core pillar of military strength. The US is testing integrated battlefield operations by establishing a new drone demonstration unit, while Japan is building a multi-layered defense system combining maritime surveillance networks with small drones to counter China's naval expansion. South Korea is also pursuing military enhancement through its plan to train 500,000 drone warriors and the introduction of combat drones.

The global military drone market is projected to grow by 14% by 2025, while the entire drone industry is expected to expand from 102 trillion won in 2024 to 229 trillion won by 2030. South Korea's market is also anticipated to grow to 146 trillion won by 2032.

At the cooperation meeting held that day, Samkwang Co., Ltd. Advisor Yang Chun-geum and Technology Research Institute Professional Woo Jae-wook participated, along with key officials including Park Dong-won, Head of the Management Division, and Ahn Sang-nam, Head of the Business Division, from the Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association.

The meeting confirmed the completion of Samkwang's membership application process with the Defense Industry Promotion Association. Various cooperation plans were discussed, including defense-related information exchange, legal and facility support, and linking to the latest news channels through the member network.

Additionally, Samkwang plans to participate in national defense projects led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), engage in joint research and development with universities and startups, and explore export opportunities through U.S. and Japanese defense networks. 

The Defense Industry Promotion Association welcomed Samkwang's membership and pledged practical support, including facilitating exchanges among member companies and assisting participation in government defense projects.

Samkwang's membership marks a strategic move to establish cooperative frameworks with major domestic and international defense companies, signifying its full-fledged entry into the defense industry network. This is highly significant and is expected to position Samkwang as a new growth engine within the global defense market.
